KAR GROUP OF COMPANIES was initially formed in 1987 by Asim ULKER and his children under the name of Kardesler Group of Companies. Since that name caused some confusion and misunderstanding due to the fact that the word "KARDESLER" was commonly used by other companies in Turkey, it was abbreviated to KAR in 1990.

KAR GROUP OF COMPANIES was initially operating through more than 30 companies in a variety of sectors, in the 1990's, a program was designed to increase efficiency through the Group companies, which was similar to those initiated by other groups around the world. More radical measures were taken after the economic crisis which occurred in Turkey in 1994 in order to strengthen the Group's financial power. It focused its efforts on areas where it had a bigger competitive edge and reduced the number of its operations and companies.

KAR GROUP OF COMPANIES has successfully earned out many joint projects with both local and international companies. Apart from trading in manufacturing and service operations, it is one of the few corporations in Turkey, which have been successful in "business development". It has played a key role in bringing a considerable amount of foreign capital into the country.
